This brief highlights the critical difficulties LGBT+ people seeking asylum face when trying to secure legal representation. Despite being financially eligible, many are denied aid because they cannot meet unreasonable evidence requirements regarding their sexual orientation or gender identity. Through the case study of “JK,” this document highlights these injustices and calls for the Legal Aid Agency to adopt a more nuanced approach that truly reflects the “interests of justice” for vulnerable applicants.
