Stop Deportation! No to Rwanda! Kill the Bill!
These were our cries, as our group stood today in solidarity against the inhumanity of the government’s Rwanda Bill, which they continue to push in Parliament despite the House of Lords deeming it illegal, and finding Rwanda to be unsafe for people seeking asylum.
African Rainbow Family urgently call for you to sign our petition now, aiming to protect LGBTIQ+ people seeking asylum from the dangers of being deported to Rwanda, or indeed anywhere.
Deportation is an extremely harmful practice that we wish to see ended for all people seeking asylum. As an organisation that supports LGBTIQ+ people seeking asylum specifically, we are aware that deportation not only jeopardises the lives of LGBTIQ+ people seeking asylum but also perpetuates discrimination on a societal level, making it essential to understand the profound harm it causes. We advocate for a more compassionate and human rights based approach to asylum policies.
LGBTIQ+ individuals often flee their home countries to escape persecution and violence due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. Deporting them back to these hostile environments condemns them to continued suffering, including exile, physical harm, emotional trauma, abuse, isolation, torture and potential death.
