Report: LGBTIQ+ History Month Campaign – “Living History”
1. Introduction & Objectives
For LGBTIQ+ History Month, we aimed to move beyond just looking at the past and instead highlight the history currently being written by our community members. The objective was to showcase that our history is vibrant, alive, and happening in real-time through our everyday lives, resilience, and joy.
2. Campaign Strategy
To achieve this, we launched an interactive campaign encouraging members to share personal memories and stories. The strategy involved:
- Active Participation: Siblings were asked to share a good memory, a photo from Pride, a significant place visited, a favorite item of clothing, or a meal that brings them happiness.
- Multimedia Approach: Participants submitted a photo along with a short voice note explaining why the memory was valuable to them.
- Submission Methods: Contributions were gathered via a group chat, directly to the Media Officer or through Advocacy Assistants.
- Amplification: These contributions were curated and shared across our social media platforms throughout the month to amplify community voices.
3. Impact & Engagement
The campaign successfully engaged members to reflect on their unique journeys. By sharing these personal snapshots, we created a collaborative narrative of resilience and celebration. The campaign demonstrated that every step toward authenticity within our community is a page written in real-time.
4. Conclusion
As we bring LGBTIQ+ History Month to a close, we celebrate the fact that our history isn’t confined to the past—it is happening right now. Throughout this month, we have been proud to share memories representing the unique journeys across our community, showcasing that every step toward authenticity is a page written in real-time. Together, we are showing the world that LGBTIQ+ history is being written today, by us. 🏳️🌈✊🏾✨
