On Monday, 18 May, we joined forces with our partners at Rainbow Migration and the team from the AB Charitable Trust at The Foundry.
Driving the Conversation on Intersectionality
The core of the day was a joint presentation and learning session designed to look deeply at how different forms of inequality overlap—particularly for LGBTIQ+ people seeking asylum who are of African heritage and the Global Majority.
For African Rainbow Family, true advocacy means recognising that human rights cannot be siloed. Our communities face unique, intersecting barriers within the UK immigration system, combining racial injustice, anti-LGBTIQ+ bias, and systemic hurdles. Sharing these insights directly with funders and partners like the AB Charitable Trust ensures that the lived experiences of our members remain at the absolute heart of the sector’s learning and strategy.
Collaboration, Community, and Connection
Beyond the presentations, the day was a wonderful opportunity for the sector to build stronger bonds. The ARF team joined Leila Zadeh (Executive Director of Rainbow Migration), her colleagues, and the AB Charitable Trust team for a shared lunch and a vital catch-up on our ongoing grassroots campaigns.
We want to extend our warmest thanks to Rainbow Migration for hosting us so brilliantly, and to the AB Charitable Trust for their deep commitment to listening, learning, and supporting the vital work of racial justice and human rights.
Together, we are stronger. We will continue to advocate, campaign, and stand up for the dignity and rights of our community.
