Celebrating Community and Solidarity: African Rainbow Family at the Rainbow Honours 2026 Awards

At African Rainbow Family, we believe that progress is built on community, solidarity, and the enduring strength of collective action. Yesterday evening, Thursday 11th June, our Founder and CEO, Aderonke Apata, had the immense privilege of attending the prestigious Rainbow Honours 2026 Awards, hosted at the London Hilton on Park Lane. The evening was a beautiful celebration of LGBTIQ+ excellence, visibility, and activism, bringing together trailblazers and change-makers from across the UK.

Wrapped in Community at the UK Black Pride Table

Aderonke attended this spectacular event by special invitation from the phenomenal Lady Phyll Opoku-Gyimah, who invited her to join the UK Black Pride team at their designated table. As an organisation dedicated to supporting LGBTIQ+ people of African heritage and the global majority, sitting alongside the UK Black Pride team was a powerful reminder of our shared mission and mutual support.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Lady Phyll and her incredible team for their warmth, hospitality, and unwavering solidarity.

Reuniting with Old Friends and Building New Alliances

Beyond the inspiring awards presentations, the heart of the night lay in the joyful reunions and vital networking that took place. The room was buzzing with energy, providing a wonderful opportunity for Aderonke to reconnect with long-time friends, allies, and steadfast champions of African Rainbow Family.

Among the many familiar faces were Baroness Liz Barker, Moud Goba, and Cher Bailey—brilliant advocates who have consistently stood with ARF and walked alongside us in our journey for justice and equality.

In addition to catching up with old friends, the evening opened doors to exciting new connections. Dynamic conversations were sparked with inspiring individuals and organisations who share our vision of a world where everyone can live authentically, safely, and free from discrimination.

Moving Forward, Together

Attending events like the Rainbow Honours Awards reinforces the importance of visibility and the absolute necessity of safe spaces where our community can celebrate its achievements. It serves as a potent reminder that while the road to full equality is long, we do not walk it alone.

As we reflect on an inspiring evening, African Rainbow Family remains committed to lifting up our community, forging powerful partnerships, and continuing our vital advocacy work.

Thank you again to UK Black Pride, Rainbow Honours, and everyone who made the evening so unforgettable. Together, we continue to rise!
