African Rainbow Family Joins Choose Love for the Launch of their Summer Shop

On Tuesday 9th June, African Rainbow Family attended the launch party for Choose Love’s Summer Shop at Borough Yards, London.

The evening was hosted by Basma Khalifa, Clara Amfo, and Grace Campbell, with music by Fat Tony, Mel Blatt, and others. Beyond the celebration, the event marked the opening of a unique pop-up shop designed to provide vital summer aid—such as medical care, shelter, and heat protection—to displaced people living in camps and temporary accommodations globally.

Speaking on the Current Immigration Climate

The evening offered a valuable opportunity to connect with the Choose Love team and discuss the severe challenges currently facing people seeking asylum in the UK.

The political climate and immigration system have become increasingly hostile. For LGBTIQ+ individuals who have fled severe persecution, criminalisation, and violence in their home countries, the journey to safety in the UK is incredibly difficult. Instead of finding immediate refuge, people navigating the asylum system are met with an exhausting legal process, prolonged detention, and the constant fear of deportation back to danger.

In this harsh climate, the services African Rainbow Family provides are more critical than ever. We offer a vital combination of legal advocacy, mental health support, and community solidarity. Our goal remains unchanged: to provide a safe, welcoming space where LGBTIQ+ refugees can find the support they need to navigate the system and live without fear.

Acting in Solidarity

Events like the Choose Love launch remind us of the power of community action. “Choosing Love” is about practical solidarity—rejecting cruel immigration rhetoric and demanding basic human rights and dignity for everyone, regardless of their background or who they love.

We want to thank Choose Love for inviting us, sharing their platform, and consistently supporting global refugee communities.
